Program

Youth Leadership

Grow WILDE's youth leadership programs place young people in real outdoor situations — expeditions, collaborative projects, and peer roles — where leadership is practiced, not studied.

What

Leadership practised in place

At the centre of this work are Leadership Modules — stand-alone or sequenced experiences that can be integrated into school programs, outdoor education, or community initiatives. Each module focuses on a specific dimension of leadership: self-awareness, communication, decision-making under pressure, stewardship, or service.

Outdoor settings introduce real variables — weather, terrain, group dynamics — that make leadership tangible. Rather than promoting a single leadership style, Grow WILDE emphasizes situational, ethical, and relational leadership: knowing when to lead, when to support, and how to act with care for both people and place.

Youth Leadership (what)

Vision

Young stewards, not just leaders

Young people who know when to lead, when to listen, and how to care for the systems around them. Programs cultivate empathy, ecological awareness, and the resilience to act with integrity — in school, in community, and beyond.

Purpose

Responsibility needs practice

Young people need safe, appropriately challenging opportunities to develop confidence and responsibility. Research is linked to the role of experiential challenge in building resilience and self-efficacy. These programs prepare students to navigate real decisions — and to understand leadership as care for systems, not authority over them.

Plan

How it works

  • Deliver Leadership Modules as stand-alone intensives or sequenced through existing school or outdoor education programs

  • Design developmentally appropriate challenges across different age groups, timeframes, and goals

  • Use expeditions, service projects, and peer leadership roles to build guided decision-making experience

  • Support academic or experiential learning credit where curricular alignment applies

  • Build in structured reflection after each challenge — so experience becomes growth
